It wasn’t so much that we were tired physically, although we were that, because from 1978 up until then, we’d never stopped.Īnd within that we’d also started to find good lives together outside of Simple Minds, and there was a lot of things needing attended to. We were so keen to get back home, not just for the sake of getting home, but waiting for us back home was this studio complex thing that we had bought, building while we were away on tour and we were excited. I think we really had come to the end of something. Jim Kerr: It’s funny, I mean, we didn’t realise it at the time, but by the end of Once Upon a Time and the subsequent tour that went with it – which stretched over a about a year and a half – I think we were dead on our feet. Did you have an idea in your mind as to how you wanted the next Simple Minds album to sound? SDE: It had been a while since the previous album, ‘Once Upon a Time’. “We sort of disappeared up our own arses, to tell you the truth…” he tells SDE editor, Paul Sinclair.
